In this work, Mark Rox turns to the image of the mermaid as a symbol of the inner world — a threshold between reality and myth, serenity and unrest. The figure of the mythological woman, captured in a moment of sleep or meditation, becomes a metaphor for the artist’s emotional state during his time living on the Catalan coast.
While residing in Castelldefels, Rox was in daily dialogue with the vastness of the sea — an experience reflected in the palette. Dominated by aquamarine, emerald, and muted ochre tones, the composition conveys a sense of depth and tranquility.
